Burgio Returns… TO SEND IT!

The Global Family Office Summit, a quarterly event that brings together asset managers, traditional family offices, regulators and unicorn disruptors, will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. During these unprecedented times, the event will be streamed via Zoom and within Crypto Valley in Decentraland. Interestingly enough, this will be the first time that this meeting of private wealth will be made available virtually. For event details, please click here.

Multigenerational family offices are historically risk-averse, opting for mechanisms of wealth preservation over riskier, more lucrative options. This methodology has proven successful from generation to generation, making the case for innovation mute. However, with growing geopolitical tensions, and monetary stimulus running rampant (in excess of $3.9 trillion has been added to the Federal Reserve balance sheet since March), interest continues to grow within the digital asset space. Notably, GDA Capital CEO Michael Gord was invited to speak at Sir Anthony Ritossa’s 11th Global Family Office Investment Summit in Monaco, the only public proponent of digital assets in attendance.

“Family offices already hold safe assets such as gold and real estate, and will always look to hold those assets for wealth preservation. Putting assets that families already own on the blockchain allows them to decrease their custody fees and collect additional dividends on the assets they already hold through making these assets transactable” — Michael Gord

Blockchain technology is far from limited to alternative currencies. Asset tokenization affords traditional assets such as gold and real estate a number of technological benefits, the lack of which has stifled utility for years. As decentralized finance continues to evolve, we may soon witness a vast array of assets existing and interacting with one another on-chain. Lending platforms have played a vital role in enabling users access to their capital, without having to relinquish control of their valuable cryptocurrencies. As assets are increasingly tokenized, these systems will no doubt become more dynamic, as real-estate, stocks and commodities begin to enter decentralized economies — reducing idle capital and facilitating the free flow of value.

Al Burgio, DigitalBits Founder, will be making an appearance at the upcoming Global Family Office Summit. The serial tech entrepreneur will be speaking alongside other industry leaders, Michael Gord, CEO of GDA Capital and XDB Foundation Managing Director, James Fierro, Founder & CEO of the Eco Capacity Exchange, Bartolome Bordallo, CEO of Zignaly, and Raoul Milhado, Founder and CEO of Elitium, on the “Developing and Scaling the Next Unicorn” Panel. A veteran within the technology space, Mr. Burgio founded Console Connect in 2011. Console helped pioneer Interconnection 2.0, the means by which companies are able to bypass public internet and interface directly with one another. Following a successful exit, he launched DigitalBits, a protocol focused on consumer digital assets, using blockchain technology to enhance brand ecosystems. Since then, the DigitalBits Project has championed the emerging asset class of branded stablecoins — a novel approach to stablecoins that moves beyond combining blockchain technology and stability, and seeks to enhance the relationship that exists between brands and consumers.

“Family offices are an important ally for any founder looking to build a global company. These families can be seen as value-add investors, who often have deep-rooted relationships in the geographies they operate out of.” — Al Burgio

The DigitalBits Founder has been out of the public eye for some time now, with the community speculating on what he’s been up to. Rumours have circulated around an entity operating in stealth, Zytara, with which former Walmart CMO and DigitalBits advisor Julie Lyle is actively involved. Appearing on the retail technology podcast, Fashion is Your Business, earlier this year, Julie confirmed that she is operating as the CEO of Zytara, a blockchain company operating in stealth mode, aimed at retail CPG, branding building and loyalty marketing. It’s not clear if Mr. Burgio will expand on this during the upcoming Summit, but there have been multiple hints at significant developments coming for the DigitalBits ecosystem in Q4 of this year.
